For more than six
decades, Church World Service has fought hunger and poverty through
the world. A major source of funds used by CWS and its partner
agencies have come from CROP (Communities Responding to
Overcome Poverty) Hunger Walks. The Greater
Indianapolis CROP Hunger Walk, with the help of thousands of
volunteers of all ages and hundreds of congregations of all faiths,
has raised in the past 39 years more than $3 million to fight
hunger in the greater Indianapolis area and around the world. Thanks
to the internet, we have many more opportunities to cast our net
wider beyond our community in seeking support for the Walk.
A huge thanks to our partners for the 2019 CROP Hunger Walk:
Christian Theological Seminary
Bread for the World
and all of the volunteers who helped make this happen, as well as, the walkers and donors who understand the need to end hunger.
Our new online server at https://www.crophungerwalk.org/indianapolisin/
can be an easy way to set up an online presence for your team. It allows your WALK participants to accept donations
safely and securely, bypassing issues with
cash or check donations. We would suggest that all our recruiters use this site to create a team and encourage their walkers to
also set up an account and use this site. Just click on the 'SIGN UP' icon below.
Please note that since this is a new server, your saved information from previous years
is not available, but
the new sign up procedure is so simplified that it will only take moments to set up a new team or personal account.
Uses of the internet
to secure credit card donations are limited only by your own
imagination. Some ideas to consider:
Send emails to
friends and family members near and far – credit card
donations can be made not only within the U.S. but also from other
countries via the secure website
Set up a team
“in memory of…” or “in honor of…”
beloved friends/family members, key congregational leaders, or any
special person in your life or community. Then send emails to your
family/friends to sponsor you in the designated person’s name.
congregational members to become “spirit” walkers –
raising funds even though they might not be able to walk or will
have a “proxy” – someone walking on their behalf.
congregations/groups with websites can include a direct link to your
team or to the Walk in general (guidelines for adding a widget can
be found here).
