Parking for Check-in - Volunteers working in or near the tent may park in the one of three places: marked spaces just north of the Tent at 42 and Michigan Road (reserved for volunteers only), in the Christian Theological Seminary parking lots (1000 W. 42 St.) or in the lot of the Interchurch Center.

Please provide name, address, phone number, and e-mail of volunteers to the CROP Hunger Walk Coordinator by 10/8 (317-847-1695 or indycropwalk@gmail.com).All volunteers will receive confirmation of task/site assignment by phone or e-mail the week before the Walk.

Registrars - Report by 1:15 p.m. to the tent marked Volunteer Check-In for orientation and assignment.

  • Prior to 1:45 p.m. and after training, mingle with Walkers to encourage registration form (or alternative consent form) appropriately completed
  • From 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. register Walkers (receive and check information on registration sheets, give out $250+ pins, and Walker identification stickers)
  • After 2:15 p.m. until around 4:00 p.m., a few registrars will help at the Interchurch Center to tally pledges, identify participating groups, and number of Walkers.

Rest Stop Workers - There are two rest stops. Both need to be set up simultaneously. Report by 1:30 p.m. to the assigned Rest Stop: 1) at the corner of 46th and Capitol (parking lot of Fairview Presbyterian Church) or 2) at 615 W. 43rd St. (Unitarian Universalist of Indianapolis). Street parking is available in both locations. Upon arrival, ask for the Rest Stop Coordinator.

  • Assist in setting up rest stop
  • Fill cups and distribute water to Walkers and Runners
  • Most need to remain at Rest Stop until Last Walkers have come through (no later than 3:30 p.m. usually); assist in tear down and clean up, and reload supplies/equipment on truck.

Route Monitor - Report by 1:15 p.m. to the Volunteer Check In Site at the Tent on 42nd St. near Michigan Road to receive safety vest and instructions (feel free to bring a comfortable lawn chair).

  • Monitors are placed along the route at strategic points to greet Walkers, assure safety of Walkers, confirm Walkers are on the right path, and in general bring a smiling face to the route.
  • Route monitors are assigned when possible in pairs to permit maximum flexibility for breaks.
  • Remain in place until Last Walkers have come through ~ time will vary depending on position along route. The latest anyone should be needed (toward end of route) will be around 4:00 p.m.

Tent Workers - Report by 1:00 p.m. to the Volunteer Check-In at the Tent on 42nd St. near Michigan Road. Volunteers should be done by 4:30 p.m. although some might be able to leave sooner.

  • Assist at Food Tent 
  • Distribute water to Walkers
  • Assist with survey
  • Welcome returning Walkers (Cheering Squad)- distribute/collect signs carried during Walk
  • Help clean up and close up following Walk
